Mikala Dwyer-workshop response

Whether the workshop matched your expectations or not I am sure all of you got something out of the experience yesterday. Mikalya was very impressed with you-It was a credit to you all that she commented on your positive attitude and enthusiasm, the sophistication in some of the work being producing and the ideas you came up with. She thought you were polite, receptive and forthcoming, and apparently a contrast to several other situations she had experienced during her time doing workshops in Qatar and the Emirates. In fact to quote her….”I’m so glad I made this the last visit of my trip as it’s been the highlight”.

So you know what she thought, now share your own thoughts by stating what positive points you will take away from what you HEARD, SAW, EXPERIENCED, FELT/THOUGHT during the experinece......

It's wonderful to hear that she was impressed with us! After looking at the presentation Mikala gave, I was just amazed at how broad and varied art could be. The students at the University of Sydney for art looked like they were able to express their feelings through any type of art, which was interesting! The pieces, ranging from mini sculptures to videos, were all interesting to look at and special in a different way.

Anyway, after we were done with the workshop, I was able to think more about how things would like in 3D. I remember in DT when we had to always draw out our designs and think about how we were going to set up our piece, but some of us did not actually get to the stage of creating our designs. I was one of those people, and thus, I was never actually really able to think in 3D, and how I would apply what is on my paper to turn into an actual object. Thus, when it came to creating an actual piece in the workshop, I was confused to some degree, but was finally able to pull it off. I started to think about how I would create certain parts, and how I would mimic what is on my paper using actual material to make it look 3D.
So, in general, I benefited from two things from the workshop. A) Understand and look at examples of how art could be very versatile, and B)Be able to improve my thinking skills when it comes to 3D.

When looking at Mikala Dwyer's artwork prior to our workshop with her, I was hesitant on how it was going to tunr out to be. Her artwork is very different from the artwork I've been familiar with my entire life. Though, at the same time I did find it very unique. When Mikalaya Dwyer came, I was happy and looking forward to meeting a real life artist!

When she was presenting the different artworks, she had my focus the whole time. I thought the way in which she uses the nature around her to do her artwork is very interesting. Not only that, but the fact that she uses small budgets to create special artworks is something really interesting.

I loved looking at her student's artworks. I was simply fascinated by how each person was unique in their own way that they produce artwork. The fact that they were strange and completely looked like nonesense inspired me more to persue in art after high school. Listening to why some students produced such artwork and how it reflected their personality really caught my attention.

I also really liked how she made us produce our own 3D space and when we were done she was complimenting and praising many of them. I thought that was really important to bring some students confidence up; it sure brought mine.

I really found it interesting to have a practising artist to come and talk to us about carrier and also our art ideas. However, since I am quite certain I will not study art in University, it did not really concern me as much as others. Still, the artworks done by students and how they produce it was fascinating.
I also really like the project with the hiding places. I found it very interesting how different each creation was even though we used very similar materials. The idea of creating the "city of hidingspots" was also nice, because it represents the childhood of every single person involved and puts them together to show how these childhoods can be similar even though they take place in different countries and cultures.
On the other hand, I thought that the presentation she gave in the beginning was a bit long. Also, she did not really talk a lot about herself and why she does the artworks as she does.
Still, all in all, the workshop was a very new experience and very interesting.
